Our fifth library was established in 2024 at the Bonga Primary School in Gugulethu Township in the Western Cape Province.
Gugulethu has high unemployment and most families rely on government grants. The area around the school is severely under-resourced:
This school was established in 1964 and serves approximately 600 students.
Since the school didn’t have a library or books, we partnered with Breadline Africa on a stand-alone pre-fabricated library building (our largest to date at 45 square meters).
Alongside 3,000 English books, we partnered with African Folktales for Kids and African Storybook to provide over 300 age-appropriate books in Xhosa, the students’ first language.
