Our fourth library was recently established at the Sihlekisi School in the Sigagule village in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
We were very excited as we began testing a new library format with classroom libraries.
The classroom libraries are on wheels, allowing the libraries to be moved between classrooms, ensuring variety and a change in reading level if appropriate.
They accommodate far fewer books than stand-alone libraries, but the books can be specifically chosen for the grade level and class interest.
Teachers get to know the books in their classroom library and can make sure the right book is getting into the right hands.
The classroom libraries are stocked with age-appropriate books in Xitsonga and English.
